Missing Dimple

Today is one of those days, like many during this 2020 pandemic, that I’m more achingly aware of Dimple Record’s absence. Hibernating is naturally upon us and I’m reminded of my nostalgic appreciations. I’ve lived off of Broadway twice in the last decade for a total of 5 years, giving me access to everything my little heart desires. Normally on a cold, dark day, I would walk slowly down Broadway to 16th st and wander through the isles. I might run into an old friend, or see people I knew, giving and taking recommendations. Sometimes coming with some intent, or other days with just whatever comes to me. Maybe I didn’t feel like buying music, or had lost interest in owning CDs, or I was on to tapes, or I just wanted to buy a book. Right now though, it’s the selection of DVDs. This was 2011-2013, when social media wasn’t really our means of entertainment, we only had about 32 friends on our instagram and netflix wasn’t in my realm. I needed those DVDs, I got to CHOOSE what I wanted to watch. Now we watch movies on our laptops, and are given options, or you’ll have to pay amazon to watch something. I hate it, I miss Dimple, I miss spending time in that store and really thinking about what I wanted to purchase and spend my time watching over and over and over again, because it was all I had. I don’t even care that I’m stuck in this apt off Broadway, I just miss studying those DVDs.
